Hana Haleakala Tour
View the Most Scenic Points of Interest on Maui
The Hana Haleakala Tour is among the most popular flights on Maui because it covers the 2 main scenic points of interest – Haleakala Crater and the Road to Hana.
The Hana Haleakala Tour a great value for people who wish to see the highlights of Maui, and perfect for 1st-time visitors to the island.
Heavenly Hana
The Road to Hana is one of Maui’s great attractions for tourists and locals alike, and will be covered on the Hana Haleakala Tour. The Road to Hana is famous for its natural beauty, lush tropical landscapes, and numerous waterfalls that cascade into natural swimming pools.
Hana reminds me of my youth and how simple life was growing up on Maui. Everyone knew your parents so you did your best to stay out of trouble and everyone watched out for one another. Hana will always hold a special place in my heart… it’s where my wife and I were married.
Haleakala National Park
Haleakala is a special place rich with legends of ancient heroes and plays a significant role in Hawaiian culture, creating an inescapable bond between the land and its people. The stark volcanic landscapes and sub-tropical rainforest of this massive dormant volcano are home for endangered species, some of which exist nowhere else in the world.
Hana Haleakala Tour Route
The flight path generally takes you in a counter-clockwise route around the East side of Maui heading first up to Haleakala. I’m not exactly sure why, but as far as I know no helicopter tour operator flies directly over or into the crater. Instead, they all fly along the rim – don’t worry, the view is phenomenal!
The tour continues into Manawainui (huge waterfall), Kipahulu, the final resting place of legendary aviator Charles Lindbergh, Oheo Gulch (aka Seven Pools and NOT as impressive in the air), Hana town and the Hana Rainforest Reserve, the largest rainforest in the United States.
Your Hana Haleakala Tour back to Kahului takes you along the rugged East Maui shoreline past waterfalls, the rich taro farms of Keanae valley, and finally, the windsurfing mecca of the world and host to World Cup sailing and surfing competitions, Hookipa Beach Park.
Conclusion
When you grow up in any area it is easy to take things for granted. Familiar surroundings are not as impressive to you as it might be to a visitor.
My wife and I have spent many, many weekends in Hana, and we take visiting family to view the sunrise at the top of Haleakala, so it doesn’t have the same impact on us as the West Maui Molokai Tour does, but it doesn’t mean YOU won’t love it!
If this is your first visit to Maui or have never seen or plan to make the long journey on the Road to Hana or drive up to the summit of Haleakala, then the Hana Haleakala tour is the right choice for you. In fact, I would recommend it over the Complete Island Helicopter Tour.
Why do I recommend it over the Complete Island Tour you ask?
The Complete Island Tour is 60 minutes. A good Hana Haleakala Tour requires 45 minutes. That leaves you with only 15 minutes to see the West Maui Mountains, and that’s NOT enough time. You NEED at least 25-30 minutes to do a good tour of the West Maui Mountains.
If you really want to see the whole island, then do the Maui Spectacular Tour. The extra 10 minutes of flight time will ensure a good flight around the West Maui Mountains. Otherwise, just stick to the Hana Haleakala Tour.
Visit Blue Hawaiian Helicopter’s website today to book your Hana Haleakala Tour today and enjoy a breathtaking 45-minute journey of a lifetime.
Take care and aloha!
