Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro for Cataclysm

Featured

I was debating whether or not to do an in-depth write up about my updated Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro, but decided to just give you what you want – the macro. I mean really, who cares what all of the new spells and abilities do, as long as things die quickly, right?

Besides, there are other websites out there that do a way better job of breaking everything down for you if you’re into theory crafting and unlocking the mysteries of the universe. Me, I just like to unwind from work by smacking around a few bosses of the pixel variety.

Still, I thought it important to explain several aspects of my Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro and include a few odds & ends to make life a little easier as an Enhancement Shaman.

Myrddin´s Shaman Blog is a good place for a more rounded view on Enhancement Shaman builds and play mechanics. The information is easy to understand and he is active on his blog and responds to comments. He also stays informed on the latest Patches. Check out his blog HERE.

Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro – Trash Macro

I no longer have a trash macro. In the past I’ve used 2 different macros – one for trash and one for boss fights. I honestly don’t know what Blizz was thinking, but they killed my trash macro when they decoupled Fire Nova from totems.

Fire Nova was an integral part of my Enhancement Shaman Rotation Trash Macro, but that all changed in 4.1 when Blizz made the Fire Nova effect to pulse from each target that is afflicted by a shaman’s Flame Shock debuff.

The theory is that each mob afflicted by your Flame Shock debuff would give off its own, independent pulse when Fire Nova is activated. In other words if 3 mobs were afflicted  by Flame Shock and you activated a single Fire Nova, it would be like activating 3 Fire Novas at once. This theory may work just fine for Elemental Shamans, I honestly don’t know, but it is crap for Enhancement Shamans.

First of all we’re a melee class. I find it extremely challenging while in the midst of a pack of mobs to tab between them and cast Flame Shock and return to my previous target. Maybe I’m using it wrong, but the Tab button seems to be too random.

Second, the most Flame Shock debuffs I’ve ever been able to reach is 2 because mobs die too fast. I mean we’re talking 6 seconds between casts! Any fight where this might be even remotely effective would be a gimmick fight.

Oh! And while we’re trying to apply this and tab to that and check to see what spell is off CD, some other class simply spams Arcane Explosion, Fan of Knives, Mind Sear or Rain of Fire. Seriously, why does an Enhancement Shaman have to debuff anything before he can use Fire Nova? To my knowledge no other class has to such a thing.

Bottom line: The current version of Fire Nova is a clunky, clumsy, crappy, useless ability. Trust me. Don’t even bother trying to use it in an AOE situation because any other class can do it way better anyway. You may as well just stand there and wait till it’s over.

Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro – THE Macro

/startattack
/targetenemy [dead][noharm]
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/castsequence reset=10/combat Flame Shock,Lava Lash,Wind Shear,Stormstrike,Earth Shock,Searing Totem,Wind Shear,Lava Lash,Stormstrike,Earth Shock,Wind Shear /console Sound_EnableSFX 1

It’s not as tight as the trash macro was, but I do pretty decent dps on single and small groups of mobs (2-3), plus I have fewer problems with aggro management since including Wind Shear in my Enhancement Shaman Macro. Prior to its inclusion I constantly pulled aggro. Not so much now. This does present a problem though if you are asked to interrupt. If that is the case then you’ll need to remove it from the macro.

Why do I include Searing Totem? Because I forget to refresh it. There are too many things for me to remember. You’re going to have to refresh it anyway, and it’s timed to drop just before expiring.

I used to have Unleash Elements in the macro, but due to its long CD it was difficult to work it into the Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro. Plus I would sometimes pull mobs accidentally because of my positioning and bad luck. The timing worked out where after I killed a target, Unleash Elements happened to be next up in the rotation and I would fire it off at nearby mobs in ZA/ZG. Needless to say members of my group were not very happy with me. I now keep Unleash Elements leashed on a separate key.

The Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro takes care of most of our classes offensive abilities. You’ll need to work in Unleash Elements whenever it’s up, Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning every MW5, and Spirit Wolves as you see fit. With such a short CD now on wolves, you can and should be using them as often as possible.

Odds & Ends

Key Enhancement Shaman Rotation Talents

  • 2/2 points in Improved Lava Lash
  • 3/3 Acuity
  • 2/2 points in Call of Flame
  • 3/3 Elemental Precision

Enhancement Shaman Glyphs

PRIME

  • Glyph of Lava Lash
  • Glyph of Stormstrike
  • Glyph of Feral Spirit

MAJOR

  • Glyph of Lightning Shield
  • Glyph of Healing Stream Totem
  • Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem

MINOR

  • Glyph of Water Walking
  • Glyph of Renewed Life
  • Glyph of Astral Recall

Power Word: Stoneclaw Totem! The 16k absorb makes for a nice personal-shield and can be a life-saver during high incoming damage. Do your healer a favor and use it often.

Stoneclaw Totem does not have to be active for the shield to be in effect, so it’s a good idea to immediately follow up with Stoneskin Totem. I use a macro like this one:

Castsequence reset=20 Stoneclaw Totem, Stoneskin Totem

Lightning Shield was another of those things I would often forget to refresh. It was in the macro, but I took it out on the advice of one of the comments below. I created a separate macro to refresh Lightning Shield as well as Windfury Weapon and Flametongue Weapon. It looks like this:

/castsequence reset=combat Lightning Shield, Windfury Weapon, Flametongue Weapon

I leveled Engineering on my Goblin Enhancement Shaman. Engineers have a nice little gizmo called Synapse Springs. “Permanently attaches synapse springs to a pair of gloves, allowing a skilled engineer to increase their highest primary statistic by 480 for 10 sec.” In the case of an Enhancement Shaman it’s Agility.

Synapse Springs have a 1 minute CD, same as Shamanistic Rage, so I’ve macro-ed the two together. I use the macro just after setting the Spirit Wolves loose and before I start mashing my Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro. There’s usually a large spike in damage at this point, so pairing Synapse Springs with Shamanistic Rage makes good sense.

#showtooltip
/startattack
/use 10
/use Shamanistic Rage
/use Potion of the Tol’vir

10 is the gear slot number for Gloves, so when you “/use 10” it activates the Synapse Springs on the gloves. If you have a profession-specific gear item that you need to “use” in order to activate it, then swap out 10 for that gear slot number.

You could also include a potion in this macro like Potion of the Tol’vir for an extra dps boost, but it would be very expensive. Perhaps the price you pay if you’re raiding.

Here’s a pic of my Action bar. Pathetic, I know.

Enhancement Shaman Action Bar Setup

My Enhancement Shaman Rotation Macro is key-bound to 2. It’s easy for me to press key 1 for Unleash Elements and key 3 for Synapse Springs Macro. Key 4 is my Stoneclaw Totem Macro, and way off to the right between Water Walking and Ancestral Spirit is my Lightning Shield+Windfury+Flametongue Weapon Macro.

Shift+1 is Windshear, Shift+2 is Lightning Bolt, Shift+3 is Chain Lightning and Shift+4 is Chain Heals.

Maybe one day I’ll do a quick video to show you how I make these macros work together.

That’s pretty much it. I hope you have fun using my Shaman Enhancement Rotation Macro. If you have any suggestions on improving the macro, or want to share your experiences using it, please leave a comment.

Take care and aloha!

Enhancement Goblin Shaman

Enhancement Goblin – My First Horde Character

Here I go again. This time I’m leveling another enhancement Shaman on the horde side, and again without the benefit of Heirloom gear. Actually, I had enough points on my paladin on the Alliance side that was able to purchase one Venerable Mass of McGowan.

Yes, I know there is the chest and shoulder piece that give me extra XP, but I so love the dps this amazing mace can produce, and it has served me well keeping me at the top of the dps meters on just about every random dungeon group I have been in. The only time I would lose the dps race is when I was grouped with someone in full heirloom gear. Considering I am usually in greens well below my current level, I am extremely pleased with my performance.

Sadly, I only had enough points for the one Venerable Mass of McGowan, and I was in no mood to run any more dungeons with my tank to get the necessary points for a second Venerable Mass of McGowan.
